Today, we sadly announce the passing of Mr. James R. (Jim) Ogles, 79, of Buford. He had been ill for some time and couldn't seem to get any better, so God, in His infinite wisdom and mercy, called him home. Jim was a wonderful man who enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. The loss will surely be great but we have the comfort of knowing that Jim was ready to go home. On February 9 while a patient at Glancy Rehab, Jim gave his life to God and accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior. Jim was a beloved husband and a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. Jim had been in construction for much of his working life and had done trim and finish work for many local builders. When he reached retirement age, he fulfilled a dream of having his own dump truck. He loved getting up each morning and getting in his big truck and working all day. When his health began to fail, he, with much sadness, gave up his big truck. Jim was in the Army during the Korean conflict and proudly served his country. He was so proud of his time in the service and loved to reminisce about that time with anyone who would listen.
Jim was predeceased by parents James and Dixie Ogles, sister Geneva (Boots) Cleary, brothers Cecil and Claude Ogles, father in law Bonnie Lynn and mother in law Floyce Lynn. Jim leaves behind his loving wife of 43 years. Nell Lynn Ogles, his best friend and constant companion, his precious dog, Shasta, 3 sons, Jimmy Lamar Ogles of Dahlonega, Steve Michael and Deborah Ogles of Alto, and Johnny Marion Ogles of Dalton. Also, 4 granddaughters, Lisa and Josh Lathem, Michelle and Sterling Forgey, Keeley Anderson and Keesha Ogles, brother in law and sister in law Royce and Phyllis Lynn. He also leaves behind 8 great grandchildren and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service will be held Friday, June 21, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Rev. Farrell Presley and Rev. Randy Porter officiating. Burial will follow at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens in Buford with full military honors and with Rev. Jimmy Hill officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, June 20 from 2 PM until 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Peachtree Christian Hospice in Duluth. The family wants to express much love and gratitude to the wonderful staff at Peachtree Christian Hospice for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Jim and the family during his final days.
