George Yonke

George Yonke, age 96 of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2013 at Autumn Breeze Assisted Living.

Mr. Yonke was born June 24, 1916 in Brooklyn, NY to the late John and Anna Voncina Yonke. He was a member of St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Yonke was a Veteran of the United States Army serving as paratrooper in World War II where he was part of D-Day at Normandy. He received a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. Mr. Yonke lived in Ocala, FL for many years after his retirement from the Post Office in New York City before moving to Cleveland, GA. He was preceded in death by 8 brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his niece, Barbara Lee, Cleveland, GA; nephew, Gary Nusser, Brooklyn, NY and other nieces and nephews.

A memorial mass is scheduled for 11:00 AM Monday, June 24, 2013 at St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church.
