Wilmer Thomas Holbrook, Jr.

Obituary Date: Sunday, June 9, 2013
Memorial Services for Wilmer Thomas Holbrook, Jr., age 86, of Clarkesville will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 15, 2013 from the Clarkesville Baptist Church. Rev. Grady Walden will officiate and the family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM.

Mr. Holbrook died Sunday, June 9, 2013 following a period of declining health.

Born in Miami, Florida Mr. Holbrook was the son of the late Wilmer T. and Lillian E. Smith Holbrook, Sr. He was a United States Army veteran having served during World War II. Mr. Holbrook was retired from the United States Postal Service. Many will remember him from the Clarkesville Post Office where he greeted everyone with a smile and a warm "hello". He would always acknowledge children that came in with their parents and grandparents and he would offer them bubble gum or a piece of candy. Mr. Holbrook was a member of Clarkesville Baptist Church and he was a life member of the Grant Reeves VFW Post # 7720, where he served on the Honor Guard for many years. In addition to his parents, Mr. Holbrook is preceded in death by sisters Marie Price & Lorene Wallis and brothers Charlie Holbrook, Roy Holbrook, Cecil Holbrook, Robert Holbrook, and Marvin (Mickey) Holbrook.

Survivors include his wife Marian Wilson Holbrook of Clarkesville, daughter Elizabeth Holbrook Stafford of Gainesville, daughter and son in law Melanie H. and Don Dowie of Conyers, son Dr. James Holbrook of Key West, Florida, son and daughter in law Reid and Karla Holbrook of Jefferson, brother and sister in law Walter and Dorothy Holbrook of Clarkesville, as well as seven grandchildren, Charlie Stafford, Jackson and Hannah Holbrook, Daniel Brown, Cole, Brett & Gray Holbrook.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Clarkesville Baptist Church Building Fund at P.O. Box 667 Clarkesville, Ga. 30523.
