Bona Allen Haney, Sr., 98 years, of Buford, died June 8, following several years of declining health.
He was born October 2, 1914 to John S. and Ella Fraser Haney in Buford, GA and was a life long resident. He was a retired carpenter (Carpenters Local 225) and a member of New Bethany Baptist Church. He loved camping, fishing, playing cards and gardening.
He was also preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mary Thornton Haney, his daughter, Pat Johnson, sister, Annie Mae Wheeler, brothers, J. Loss, W. C. "Dub", John Henry and Herbert.
"Grandy", as he was known, is survived by his children, Peggy and Harry Compton, Buford, Pinkie and George Pilgrim, Royston, Bubby and Teresa Haney, Lawrenceville, and Butch and Tammy Haney, Buford and son-in-law, Sam Johnson, Canon; grandchildren, Kirk Compton, Buford, Lorilee Compton, Buford, Trish Johnson and Pedro Martinez, Canon, Shawn and Jenny Haney, Dacula, Stephanie and Trent Alexander, Bethlehem, Shannon and Blake Roberts, Lawrenceville, Shae Haney, Lawrenceville, Christy Evans, Buford, John and Kajsa Haney, Lawrenceville, Melissa and Chris Bray, Buford; step grandchildren, Kim and Tim Alewine, Royston, Melissa and Jeff Vaughn, Bowman, Suzanne and Joey Strickland, Canon; seventeen great grandchildren and six step great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Jesse and Sara Haney; sisters, Marie Berry and Ima Clark; sisters-in-law, Sue Haney, Willene Haney, all of Buford, Lida Haney, Flowery Branch, Polly Thornton, Buford; brother-in-law, Hoyt Fowler, Buford; his Special Caregiver, Marlain Thomas, Gainesville; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. His grandchildren will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 3:30 p.m. at the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home. Interment will follow at New Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery in Buford, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
