Shirley Juanita Holland Hughes

Shirley Juanita Holland Hughes, 66, of Dahlonega passed away Wednesday June 5, 2013 at her residence following an extended illness.

Mrs. Hughes was born December 11, 1946 in Lumpkin County to the late Arthur and Gladys Holland. She had been a resident of Dahlonega for the past 10 years, previously of Dawsonville. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, cook, and gardener. She was also a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Dahlonega and worked for many years at the Corner Café in Dawsonville. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Juanita Pierce.

Surviving are her husband of 35 years, Douglas M. Hughes, Dahlonega; son and daughter in law, Keith and Anitra Holland, Gainesville; stepdaughters and son in law, Starr and David Hume, Cumming, Susan Hughes, Dawsonville; stepson and daughter in law, Steve and Van Hughes, Florida; sister and brother in law, Patricia and Earl Odell, Oakwood; brothers and sisters in law, Donald and Elizabeth Holland, Dawsonville; Ralph and Melinda Holland, Cumming; grandchildren, Summer Holland, Savanna Holland; stepgrandchildren, Garrett Wilson, Gavin Wilson, Hayden Wilson, Jake Hughes, Delanie Hughes, Blair Hume, Braxton Hume; a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Saturday June 8, 2013 at 2 o'clock at Antioch Baptist Church in Dahlonega. Rev. Clifford Allen will officiate. Interment will follow in Antioch Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 6 until 9 and on Friday from 2 until 4 and from 6 until 9.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to help offset final expenses.
