Jack E. Tufts

Dr. Jack E. Tufts (formerly of Bushnell, IL and Waterloo, IA) went to be with the Lord on May 27, 2013 at the age of 76. He passed peacefully at his home in Dahlonega, GA, surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 2, 1937 in Waterloo, IA, the son of Arthur and Blossom (Cherry) Tufts. He graduated from West High School, Waterloo, IA in 1955. He married Carol McEvoy on November 24, 1962 at St. Edward's Catholic Church, Waterloo, IA.

Dr. Tufts graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA in October 1967. "Doc", as he was affectionately called by his patients, had a practice in Bushnell, IL for 18 years. Prior to Bushnell he had offices in Orion and Moline, IL for a career total of 27 years. He was admired for his dedication to his work and family. He touched many lives both personally and professionally, receiving numerous awards, including a Red Cross Life Saving Award. Jack was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed time with his family canoeing/kayaking, skydiving, motorcycling, boating and target shooting. Jack was a member of Set Free Church before becoming homebound with Alzheimer's.

Jack and Carol moved to Flowery Branch, Georgia in 1994 after he retired from Chiropractic and later moved to Dahlonega in 2002. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carol McEvoy Tufts of Dahlonega. They were blessed with 5 children. Surviving are daughters, Christine Tufts King Dahlonega, GA; Stephanie Tufts Perotti Bluffton, SC; Valerie Tufts Ditzig (Tom) of Charlotte, NC; and sons, Brian Tufts (Cristina) Arlington, VA; Ryan Tufts (Melanie) of Jefferson, GA.

Four grandchildren: granddaughter, Taylor King Holtzclaw (Adam), grandsons, Brice King and Dylan Perotti, with a fourth grandchild due in July of this year. Two great-grandchildren: Kristen Holtzclaw and Aiden Holtzclaw. He is also survived by two sisters, Beverly Tufts O'Rourke, Winthrop, IA and Judy Tufts Hughes Waterloo, IA and one brother, Rev. Terry Tufts (Carole) Grand Rapids, MI; Aunt Waival Austin Waverly, IA; sister's-in-law Nancy McEvoy Burns (Jim) and Pam McEvoy Farr and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Jack will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at Dahlonega Funeral Home. His brother, Rev. Terry Tufts, will be officiating services at 2:00 p.m., May 30, 2013. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Dahlonega. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Inc., 2150 Limestone Pky., Suite 222, Gainesville, GA 30501.
