Gertrude Rogers Smith

Gertrude Rogers Smith, age 86, of Demorest, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Habersham Medical Center following a period of declining health.

Born January 13, 1927, on Plum Orchard in Rabun County Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Leander Frank Rogers and Emma Nicholson Rogers. She lived most of her life in Habersham County. She was a homemaker, gardener, and babysitter. She loved Jesus and was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Demorest, Georgia.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Ray Franklin Smith; brothers; Horace, Morris, and Hubert Rogers; sisters; Ruth Eller, Ree Eller and Bonnice Rogers.

She is survived by: daughter and son in law Deborah and David Canto, of Clarkesville, son and daughter in law, Glen and Cindy Smith of Demorest, sisters, Esta Addis of Clarkesville and Irene Eller of Virginia. She is also survived by sister in laws Bernice Caudell of Baldwin and Bernice Smith of Lawrenceville, Georgia; brother in law and sister in law Russell and Joann Smith of Mt. Airy, brother in law James Smith of Mt. Airy; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 2:00 PM from the Hillside Memorial Chapel with Dr. Charles Holland, Reverend Russ Barker, and Reverend Trent Smith officiating. Interment will follow the service at Yonah Memorial Gardens in Demorest, Georgia.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 26, 2013, from 6:00-8:00 PM and Monday, May 27, 2013, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Hillside Memorial Chapel in Clarkesville.
