Dwayne Taylor

Dwayne O'Neal Taylor, 82, of Chapin, South Carolina, passed away on May 12, 2013 surrounded by his family.

Dwayne was born on July 23, 1930 to Robert and Reba Taylor in Commerce, GA. As a teenager, he moved with his family to Helen, GA where he met his wife of almost 60 years, Kathleen "Kat" Canup Taylor. He joined the Air Force at age 21, but his military career was ended prematurely by a plane crash. His love of flying lead him to obtain his private pilot's license, and he enjoyed many years of flying with his family. In 1969, he relocated to Garden City Beach, SC with his wife and three daughters. Dwayne had many occupations which included managing the Garden City Pier, Captain Dick's Marina and The Bonito, his deep sea fishing boat. He moved to Chapin, SC in 1998, where he enjoyed spending time on Lake Murray with his family. Dwayne was a devoted member of Lake Murray Presbyterian Church and the Men of the Church. He enjoyed participating in various mission programs supported by his church.

He is survived by his wife Kathleen; daughters, Cherri Taylor Corcoran (Michael) of Folsom, CA, Susan Taylor Glenn (Steven) of Prosperity, SC and Alyson Taylor Bouknight (Lamar) of Chapin, SC; grandchildren, Cody and Griffin Corcoran, Taylor, Jesse and Jacob Glenn, and Carly and Berkley Bouknight; his sister Runnette "Runnie" Smallwood (Bill) of Greenville, SC and many beloved, extended family members.

Graveside services will be held at Center Baptist Church Cemetery on Wednesday May 15th 4:00 pm. Visitation will be from 1-3 pm at Barrett Funeral Home in Cleveland, GA prior to the service. A memorial service will also be held at Lake Murray Presbyterian Church in Chapin, SC on Saturday May 18th 3:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Newberry Boys Farm, P.O. Box 713, Newberry, SC 29108, the Goodworks Fund of the Lake Murray Presbyterian Church, 2721 Dutch Fork Road, Chapin, SC 29036 or Center Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 109 Elrod Road Helen, GA 30545.

The family of Dwayne Taylor wishes to thank the Lexington Medical Center staff and physicians for their outstanding care during his recent hospitalizations and family and friends for their many prayers.
