J. Norfman Moore, Sr.

Obituary Date: Sunday, April 14, 2013
Mr. J. Norman Moore, Sr., passed away Sunday morning April 14th. His body succumbed to cancer, but his spirit has been victoriously united with God.

Born in 1928 as a child of the depression, he lived through America's golden age. His family has resided in Hall County for several generations. He served in the United States Navy on the aircraft carrier Midway during the Korean War. After a 34 year career with the USDA he retired in 1989 to enjoy his many hobbies including his garden, golf and spending quality time with his family and many friends. Mr. Moore was a graduate of Riverbend High School and a member of the Gainesville Masonic Lodge #219 F & AM, American Legion, Disable American Veterans and the St. Paul United Methodist Church.

He was faithful in a land of faithlessness, moral in an age of immorality, kind and gentle in a nation that became self centered. Beloved by many, his death has left a great void in the world.

Mr. Moore is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sarah Moore, son and daughter-in-law, Jim, Jr. and Selena Moore, daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Tom Wood, grandchildren, James Moore III, Lauren Wood, Thomas Wood III, great grandson, Joe Hunter and his favorite niece, Gail Moore.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday April 16, 2013 at the St. Paul United Methodist Church on Washington Street. Rev. Calvin Haney will officiate. Interment will follow in the Alta Vista Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends at the Little & Davenport Funeral Home Monday April 15, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the St. Paul United Methodist Church Building Fund, 404 Washington Street, Gainesville, Ga. 30501.
