Richard Barry Williams

Richard Barry Williams, 79, of Gainesville, Georgia died peacefully in his home April 6, 2013.



A native of Atlanta, he graduated from North Fulton High School and received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism degree from The University of Georgia where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity



Upon graduation, he joined the Promotion Department at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and later worked in the Sunday Department. Dick joined Atlanta Magazine and also worked free-lance for the Atlanta newspapers as Arts and Music Editor. He held several positions in advertising and public relations agencies. Dick rejoined Atlanta Magazine and became Managing Editor and later was named Public Relations Director of the International Association of Financial Planners.



He is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Carolyn Yon, children Lisa and Richard Shunnarah of Atlanta, Suzanne Preston Williams of Smyrna, Matthew Green Williams of Gainesville, Georgia, and Andrew Cooper Williams and wife, Allison of Hilton Head, South Carolina. He is also survived by three grandchildren; Alexander and Olivia Williams, Hilton Head, South Carolina and Rachel Shunnarah of Atlanta, Georgia.



The family wishes to extend most gracious thanks to our special friend, Barbara Wilkins and the staff of Gentiva Hospice.



A memorial service celebrating the life of Dick Williams will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, 431 Washington Street, Gainesville, Georgia, Friday, April 12. 2013 at 1:00 p.m. The Reverend Dean Taylor and The Reverend Alison Schultz officiating. A celebration reception will be immediately following the service in the Parish Hall.
