S. Helen Morsilli
Obituary Date: Tuesday, March 26, 2013
S. Helen Morsilli passed on Thursday, March 26th. She was deeply loved and her family mourns her loss, but is rejoicing that she is now pain-free and reunited with our Great Lord.
Helen was born on July 12th, 1923, in Manhattan, NY, to parents, Francesco and Filomena Morsilli who two years earlier had emigrated from Italy. Helen was the second of three children. Unfortunately, her younger sister, Raffaella, died from pneumonia at age two. Helen and her older sister, Florence, grew up in a traditional Italian family and started school not knowing any English. Thanks to the loving mentoring from a Jesuit teacher, they both eventually learned the needed skills to further their education.
Helen graduated from Hunter College and received her master's degree from Columbia University, after which she spent nearly four decades with the New York City Board of Education teaching English, typing, and medical and legal shorthand. Helen retired in 1985 and relocated to Atlanta to be closer to family. Throughout retirement, Helen enjoyed traveling the world along with perusing her passions for painting and ceramics. But her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her sister, Florence and nephews Robert Averso and wife Pamela, and David Averso and wife Martha, and five great-nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Roswell's Huntcliff Summit for their loving care of Helen over the last 7 years along with the Staff and Caregivers of ResCare HomeCare.
The Memorial service for S. Helen Morsilli will be on Saturday, April 6th, at 1:00pm at McDonald and Son Funeral Home located at 150 Sawnee Drive, Cumming GA 30040.
