Jack Wiley Money

Obituary Date: Sunday, March 24, 2013


Mr. Jack Wiley Money, age 83, of Gainesville, Georgia, died on Sunday, March 24, 2013 following an extended illness.

A reception for family and friends to honor and remember Mr. Money will be held from 4 to 6 pm Friday, March 29, 2013 at the Quinlan Arts Center in Gainesville. Inurnment will be held at Grace Episcopal Church of Gainesville at a later date.

Mr. Money was born on August 22, 1929 in Forsyth County, North Carolina. He was the son of the late May (Sapp) Money and Ralph Flake Money. Mr. Money graduated from Sedge Garden High School in Kernersville, NC and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a BS in Business Administration. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Beta Gamma Sigma and Alpha Kappa Psi. From 1951 to 1953 he served in the United States Marine Corps. His professional career began with Arthur Andersen & Co. in Atlanta, GA and he later became Chief Financial Officer at Lilliston Co. in Albany, GA and at North American Royalties in Chattanooga, TN. Professionally, he devoted much time to the Financial Executives Institute where he was a National Director as well as Director of South Eastern States and President of the Chattanooga Chapter.
Mr. Money was a member of the Chattanooga Kiwanis Club and served as Director, Treasurer, and Finance Committee Chairman. He served as Board Director of the Boy's Club of Chattanooga. He served as Finance Chairman for Senior Neighbors of Chattanooga and Chairman of Walden Club Board of Governors, downtown Chattanooga. He also served as Board Director of Downtown Chattanooga YMCA. He was Chairman of the Administrative Board of Porterfield Methodist Church in Albany, GA as well as Chairman of the Finance Committee. He volunteered at Northeast Georgia Medical Center and was a member of the Medical Auxiliary. He loved golf and tennis all his life and enjoyed helping to usher in the computer age both personally and in business.
Mr. Money was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Gainesville, GA; He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Charlotte Money Beatty.
Mr. Money is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruth Idol Money of Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law, John Michael and Carol (Williams) Money of Chattanooga, TN; daughter and son-in-law, Ann (Money) Goble and Dr. Henry Grady Goble of Gainesville, GA; two grandchildren, Ava Gray Goble, a junior at New York University and Jackson Archer Goble, a senior at Gainesville High School.
