George Thornton Jewett

George Thornton Jewett died March 1, 2013 in Gainesville, GA.

He was born in Rockford IL on September 16, 1927 to the late Thornton Alonzo and Mary Susannah Perkins Jewett. He moved to Mariemont, OH when he was 6 years old. During his school years he was active in Boy Scouts and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. George entered Miami University in 1945, the U.S. Navy for 2 years, then back to Miami to graduate in the School of Business in 1948. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi. George married Charlene Coler February 5, 1949. They were happily married for 64 years. From 1953 to 1955 he returned to the U. S. Navy as a Supply Corps officer.

George was employed by The Chatfield Paper Corporation in Cincinnati. He moved to Indianapolis in 1970 where he was manager of Chatfield Paper there. He returned to Cincinnati in 1977 as president of Chatfield Paper. He retired in 1989. He was active in SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) for a number of years. In 2001 he and Charlene moved to Lanier Village Estates in Gainesville, GA.

Survivors include his wife, Charlene Jewett of Gainesville, a son Jeffrey Coler Jewett of Cheyenne, WY, a daughter Kathleen Pilotti and son in law, Thomas Pilotti of Gainesville, GA, and 2 granddaughters, Jenny Vitti and Amy Vitti. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Lou Sparks.

A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Lanier Village Estates, 4000 Village View Dr. Gainesville, GA on Friday, March 8 at 2pm by the Reverend Richard Evans.
