Herbert Tench

Herbert D. Tench, age 92 of Cornelia, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, February, 19, 2013 at Gateway Health & Rehab in Cleveland following an extended illness.

Born in Habersham County, Georgia on August 16, 1920, he was a son of the late Jesse D. & Tallulah Eliza Williams Tench. Mr. Tench served his country proudly in the United States Army during WWII and worked in the textile industry for many years until retirement. He enjoyed playing music with his guitar, fishing, working in flowers with his wife and especially enjoyed family gatherings. Mr. Tench attended the New Bridge Baptist Church of Cleveland for over 35 years. Affectionately known as Grandpa by his family, Herbert was very loved and will be missed by all. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eunell McDougald Tench, son, Charles Tench, daughter, Betty Sue Rogers, and a granddaughter, Kami Tench Cabe.


Survivors include his children, Roger & June Tench, Danielsville, GA; Steve McDougald, Stanley & Sheree McDougald, all of Cleveland, GA; Judy McDougald, Cornelia, GA; Rita & Mitchell Cantrell, Sautee, GA; daughter-in-law, Donna Tench, Cornelia, GA; sister-in-law, Eva Alexander, Cleveland, GA; brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Garland & Ellen Stephens, sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Winnie & William Hembree, all of Cornelia, GA; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, & friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 21, 2013 at the New Bridge Baptist Church in Cleveland with Pastor Phillip Robinson and the Rev. Darin Cain officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Grant Reeves V.F.W. Post # 7720, American Legion Post # 84, and the D.A.V. Chapter # 15.



Mr. Tench will lie in state at the church from 1:30 p.m. until the service hour on Thursday.



The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
