Betty Jo Slater Byrd

Betty Jo Slater Byrd, age 79, of Cornelia, Georgia, passed away on Friday, February 15, 2013, following a brief diagnosis of cancer.



Ms. Byrd was born on April 5, 1933, in Carnesville, Georgia; daughter of the late Hobart and Flora Lee Elrod Slater. She was also preceded in death by the father of her children, Jones Wiley Byrd. Ms. Byrd was a very dedicated homemaker and a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was of the Baptist faith.



Survivors include her daughters, Tina J. Robertson, Demorest, GA and Tracy L. Byrd, Baldwin, GA; sons, Joe G. Byrd, Cornelia, GA, David M. Byrd and his fiancé, Tina D. Dale, Liberty, SC, Kelly A. Byrd, Baldwin, GA, and Clifford J. Tuck, Demorest, GA; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sara and Floyd McEntyre, Mt. Airy, GA and Brenda and Raymond Hall, Greenville, SC; brother, Horace T. Slater, St. Petersburg, FL; grandchildren, Amanda Kay Poplin, Heather Leigh Robertson, Joseph Bradley Byrd, Anthony Stephen Byrd, David Michael Byrd, II, Jeramy Lee Wiley, and Josie Amber Grindle; and great-grandchildren, Preston Lee Keller, Crystal Marie Poplin, Isabelle Robertson, and Kiera Wiley.



The family will receive friends from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, February 17, 2013, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, Georgia, to remember the life of Betty.
