Hugh Lewis Dorsey

Hugh Lewis Dorsey, age 96 of Gainesville, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at New Horizons Lanier Park following a brief illness.

Memorial services are scheduled for Friday, February 8, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. John Baptist Church. The family will receive friends after the service at the church.

Mr. Dorsey was born on September 17, 1916 in Cornelia, GA. He was a member of St. John Baptist Church. Mr. Dorsey served in the United States Army in World War II. He received the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star and the World War II Victory Medal. During his working career, Mr. Dorsey was employed at such great establishments as Tavern on the Greet in New York City. Locally, he served as host of a former local favorite, L&K Cafeteria as well as Longstreet Café. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Mozelle Cooper and Molly Walker; his brother, Horatio Dorsey; and his wife, Jesse Dorsey.

Mr. Dorsey is survived by his daughter, Gracie Morrow of Gainesville; sister, Carrie Thompson of New Jersey; granddaughter, Suzanne Gallo of Lawrenceville; great-granddaughter, Nicole Sewell of Duluth and great-granddaughter, Ashia Gallo of Atlanta, two precious great-great granddaughters and a host of nieces and nephews.
