Obituary Date: Tuesday, February 5, 2013
Gordon Lee Alexander, Jr. passed away Tuesday February 5th, 2013 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness.
A memorial service will be held Friday, February 8th, 2013 at 11:00am at Gainesville First United Methodist Church, 2780 Thompson Bridge Road, Gainesville, GA, with Dr. Terry Walton officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Gathering Room of the church.
Gordon was born on September 12, 1940 in Augusta, Georgia. Gordon received his high school education from Georgia Military Academy in College Park, Ga. He received his Bachelor of Science in accounting from North Georgia College, now University of North Georgia in Dahlonega. He served 2 years active duty in the US Army at Fort Bragg, NC, then moved to Gainesville, Ga. In 1971, he opened a CPA firm, Gordon L. Alexander, Jr, CPA which still remains in Gainesville, located on Bradford Street and is now Alexander, Almand & Bangs, LLP serving the local business community continuously for 42 years, now managed by his son, John Alexander. Gordon formally retired from the partnership in 2010, but continued practicing with the firm, daily, until his death. Gordon exhibited sound business skills and ethics in his life and all of his dealings. He lived a life he very much enjoyed through his faith, 48 year marriage, 2 children, 7 grandchildren, career, and many long time friendships.
He is survived by his wife Ann, daughter and son in law Cathy and Todd Behrend, grandchildren Alex, Jake and Julia Behrend, all of Alpharetta, and son and daughter in law John and Kristine Alexander, grandchildren, Thomas, Jack, Matthew and Abby Alexander, all of Gainesville, Ga.
Gordon is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Tillson Alexander, age 101, of Gainesville. Brother and sister in law, William and Sherron Alexander of Louisville, Kentucky, Brother Raymond Alexander of Chatsworth, Ga and sister Elizabeth Houska of Rising Fawn, Ga.
Gordon contributed to many local charities and his church, Gainesville First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions to your favorite charity would honor his memory.
