Gladys Davis Pitts

Gladys Davis Pitts, age 85 of Mt. Airy, passed away Monday, February 4, 2013, at the Oaks at Scenic View, following a period of declining health.
Born in Madison County, North Carolina on November 23, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Dorsey and Georgey Roberts Davis. Mrs. Pitts was a retired seamstress having been employed with International Outerwear. She was an active, lifelong member of Hazel Creek Baptist Church where she was involved with the Happy Timers and Men & Ladies Sunday School Class. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, crocheting, and quilting.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Pitts was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Pitts; sister, Ethel Owenby and brothers, Earl Davis and Perry Davis.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, David & Gloria Pitts of Monroe; son, Daniel M. Pitts of Jacksonville, FL; siblings, Pauline Underwood of Mt. Airy, Anna Mae Quillen of Romulus, MI, Juanita Lovell of Mt. Airy, Agnes Moore of Mt. Airy, Elane Echols of Alto, Mildred Stephens of Mt. Airy, Glenn Davis of Mt. Airy and Kermit Davis of Mt. Airy; four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; also numerous nieces and nephews survive.
Funeral services are 11:00 am Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at Hazel Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Burrell and Rev. Trent Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The Men & Ladies Sunday School Class are requested to serve as honorary pallbearers and should assemble at the church by 10:45 am on Wednesday.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-8 pm Tuesday.
