David Scott Phillips

David Scott Phillips of Cumming, age 52, passed away peacefully at his home on January 21, 2013.
Scott was born on November 23, 1960 in Kingsport, TN. He was preceded in death by his father, Beverly Edwin Phillips, Sr.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Deborah Knox Phillips; his beautiful and cherished daughter, Haleigh Phillips (Allen) Funsten; his mother, Charlotte S. Phillips; siblings, Eddie Phillips, Jeff (Deborah) Phillips, and Leigh Ann Phillips (David) Hunt; niece Jessie (Josh) Morgan; nephews, Scout Phillips, Sam Phillips, David Aaron Hunt, and Avery Hunt.
Scott became the proud "Papaw" of Jayce Funsten in 2011, which brought him great joy and pleasure. Scott was a faithful and true friend to many, offering support whenever called upon. He was a carpenter by trade, but his passions included wood carving, painting, spiritual study, and time spent with his wife, daughter, grandson, mother, and other family and friends. Scott was a spiritual being and loved his God. A favorite saying of his was, "Hoka Hey" which means, "To live life in such a way that one has done all that one should upon one's last day. - So it is indeed a good day to die."
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 6:00 PM in the chapel of Ingram Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Brockett officiating. The family will receive friends at Ingram Funeral Home on Saturday, January 26, 2013, from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM.
