Dr. Joe Harvey Slocum

Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, announces services for Dr. Joe Harvey Slocum, 67, of Commerce who passed away late Tuesday evening at his residence.

Born in Stephens County, GA, he was the son of the late Johnny and Beatrice Jameson Slocum. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Suzanne Chestnut. Survivors include his wife of the residence, Olivia Garrison Slocum; daughters, Michelle Trudgeon of Sharpsburg, Lynn Rangel of Madison, Suzette Brown of Newnan; sisters, Sandra Fricks of Watkinsville and Karen Barger of Danielsville; 10 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday at 11 AM from the Maysville Baptist Church with Dr. Brian Stowe, Rev. Jack Segars, Rev. David Sharpton, Rev. James Hughes and Rev. Scott Griffeth officiating. Interment will follow in the Nails Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5-9 PM. Dr. Slocum will lie in state at the church from 10:30 AM until the time of service.
