Yvonne Thurmond Sanders

Yvonne Thurmond Sanders, 74, of Dawsonville passed away Monday January 14, 2013 at Northside Forsyth Hospital following a period of declining health.

Born September 26, 1938 to the late Virgil and Mary Edmondson, she was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. Yvonne was employed by Sweet-Orr for over 35 years after which she worked for the Dawson County School System for 10 years. An accomplished seamstress, she did sewing in her home for the public. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, she loved and was devoted to her community. She was a member of Juno Baptist Church and was also preceded in death by her first husband, Buster "Bully" Thurmond; daughter, Paula Thurmond Waters; two sisters and two brothers.

Surviving are her husband of 21 years, Preston Sanders, Dawsonville; children, Debbie Nahlik, Dawsonville, Wanda Hutcheson, Dawsonville, Judy and Morris Harris, Dawsonville, Jerry "Redbone" Thurmond, Dawsonville, Wendy and Chris Honea, Dawsonville, Wanda and Donnie Fields, Tennessee; sister and brother in law, Brondell and Len Arnold, Canton; grandchildren, Tessa and Tony Kirby, Shannon and Amy Nahlik, Ryan Harris, Chance Wilson, Cruze Hutcheson, Amberly Scott, Donnie Fields, Jr., Connie Christina Newman; great grandchildren, Paige Kirby, Gracie Nahlik, Hudson Nahlik; and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Thursday January 17, 2013 at 3 o'clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Stephen Wilson and Rev. Jason Hamby will officiate. Interment will follow in Dawsonville Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1 until 8 at the funeral home.
