William Samuel Dixon

William Samuel Dixon, age 65 of Cleveland, passed away Friday, January 11, 2013 at his residence following an extended illness.

Mr. Dixon was born December 30, 1947 in Clarkesville to Margaret Kinney Dixon and the late Clyde Dixon. He was preceded in death by his son, Matt Dixon, nephew, Adam Dixon, father-in-law, Wilbert Stowers, brother-in-law, Johnny Stowers. He was the owner of W.C. Dixon Agency since 1981 and a partner and co- owner of Norton-Dixon Insurance Agency and was a member of Cleveland First Baptist Church. He loved his wife and spending time at his house on Lake Burton, water skiing and hunting. He served 3 years on Lake Burton Civic Association Board of Directors, and assisted on golf tour, home tour, fun run to donate monies to 3 volunteer fire departments, Wildcat, Tallulah Persimmon and Lakes.

Mr. Dixon was a Georgia Department of Labor Area Supervisor for 16 years and was a founding board member of the White County Chamber of Commerce serving 1985-1990, and President from 1985-1986. He served as a White County Development Authority board member and assisted with the formation of the Industrial park. Mr. Dixon was a Regions Bank Director for 9 years and chairman 3 years. He was a board member of The White County Water Authority and the Caring Hands Health Clinic. Mr. Dixon was the chairman of the City of Cleveland Zoning Board, and member of the White County Historical Society. He was a member of the White County Rotary Club for 24 years, perfect attendance for 7 years, recently named honorary member the Rotary Scholarship Raffle named in his honor.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Stowers Dixon, Cleveland; son, Mark Dixon, Athens; daughter, Maggie Dixon, Marietta; mother, Margaret Dixon, Cleveland; sister, Frances Dixon, Gainesville; brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Pam Dixon, Gainesville; mother-in-law, Bonita Stowers, Gainesville; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Cleveland First Baptist Church. The Rev. Doug Merck, the Rev. Dennis Turner and Judge Garrison Baker will officiate. Interment will follow in Gateway Memory Park.

The family will receive friends from 3-9 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
