William Hendrix

Mr. William "Bill" Hendrix, age 80, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away Monday, January 7, 2013 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center while receive care in the Center's Hospice Unit.

Visitation house will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm and again later in the evening from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel located at 989 Riverside Drive in Gainesville, GA with the funeral services held at the same location at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 10, 2013. Reverend Steve Baker and Pastor Matt Wethington will officiate the services.

Mr. Hendrix was born February 9, 1932 in Waycross, GA. He was the son of the late Reverend Alvin F. Hendrix and Sally K. (Blackstone) Hendrix. He was a graduate of Wacona High School and the Jacksonville School of Business and received his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Georgia. He also served in the US Naval Reserves for eight years while pursuing his college education. Bill's career as an Office Supplies Salesman and Business Owner spanned a period of over 40 years. He spent his last eighteen working years serving as an Officer at the Hall County Correctional Institute. He was also a member of Riverbend Baptist church and was an avid lover of bluegrass and country music. His other interests included American and World History along with sociology and behavioral sciences and he loved to travel with family and friends to visit and learn about historical places and events.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and his two brothers, C. Daniel Hendrix and Larry F. Hendrix, all from Waycross, GA.

Survivors include his beloved wife Barbara Whelchel Hendrix of Gainesville; daughter, Beth Hendrix Gorse and her husband, August H. Gorse IV, along with their son Zackary T. Gorse, all of Jesup, GA; son @. Bryan Hendrix and his wife, Debbie R. (Nix) Hendrix, along with their children, Jacob W. Hendrix and Rachel D. Hendrix, all of Gainesville; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Elizabeth Whelchel of Gainesville and sister-in-law, Vilma Hendrix and Martha Hendrix, both of Waycross, GA. Other survivors include two (2) nieces and five (5) nephews.

Flowers as well as contributions to the donor's favorite charities will be accepted in Bill's memory.
