Harlan Perry Adkins

Mr. Harlan Perry Adkins, age 89, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, January 02, 2013 at Summers Landing at Limestone.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel with interment to follow at South Bend UMC Cemetery. The Reverend David Lewis, Reverend Mike Borchert and Reverend Richard Long will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 9 pm Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the funeral home.

Mr. Adkins was born on December 24, 1923 in White County and was the son of the late Luther Lee Adkins and Lena Ann (Herrin) Adkins. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Adkins was a member of South Bend United Methodist Church. He was an avid fisherman and a master boat mechanic. He was a carpenter by trade and retired from Carol Daniels Construction Company. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Luther (Buddy) Adkins, Cliff Adkins, Phil Adkins; sisters, Inez Howard and Edna Nalley; and his only son Douglas Perry Adkins.
Mr. Adkins is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Bonnie (Garrett) Adkins of Gainesville; daughters and sons-in-law,; Wanda and Richard Robinson of Gainesville; Barbara and John Westad of Lake George, MN; Linda and Jimmy Mayfield and Tina and Mark Williamson all of Gainesville; daughter-in-law and husband, Gloria and Jimmy Tatum of Gainesville; brother, Richard (Dick) Adkins; sister, Nola Wofford both of Gainesville; sister-in-law, Cullie Adkins Minish of Gainesville; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews; and great-nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the Department of Veterans Affairs, 1670 Clairmont Road, Decatur, GA 30033 or Agape Hospice Care, 5825 Glenridge Drive, Bldg 4, Suite 200, Atlanta,
GA 30328 in memory of Harlan Adkins.
