Charles Edward Martin

Charles Edward Martin, age 92 of Demorest, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2012, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Born in Huntington, Virginia, on December 01, 1920, he was the son of the late Chester Martin and Amy Lowrey Ford. Mr. Martin was a member and Sunday School teacher at Habersham Baptist Church. He was formerly employed with Pinellas Lumber Company and was a WWII U.S. Army veteran. He served in Okinawa in the 27th Division and was a staff artist and cartoonist for the 1st Calvary Division in Osaka, Japan. He enjoyed sharing his artwork and received a Who's Who Award for his artistry in the military. Mr. Martin was also an accomplished organist and enjoyed reading.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Martin was also preceded in death by his wife, Charlie Russell Martin; sister, Edith D. Bowers.

Survivors include daughter, Jennie Fehr of St. Petersburg, FL; grandchildren, Teresa Strickland, Robert E. Fehr, Jr. and Sherri Lynn Klinger; great grandchildren, Cydney Strickland, Brittany Strickland, Shawn Strickland, Stephanie Strickland, Monica Fehr and Ryan Fehr; step-grandchildren, Max Blowers and Samantha Blowers; great-great grandchildren, Shawn Strickland, Jr. and Brodie DuShane.

Funeral services are 2:30 pm Thursday, January 03, 2013, at Habersham Baptist Church with Rev. Johnny Thomas and Rev. Matt Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in Habersham Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Grant Reeves V.F.W. Post #7720, American Legion Post #84, Rabun County D.A.V. Chapter #15 and the Georgia National Guard.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 & 7-9 pm on Wednesday.
