Alan Blair Newton, Sr.

Alan Blair Newton, Sr., age 73, of Cumming, passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at his residence after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Alan was born on August 27, 1939 in Wichita, Kansas to the late William and Dorothy Watkins Newton. Along with his parents and siblings, Alan moved to Hapeville, Georgia in 1948. He attended College Street Elementary School in Hapeville and graduated from Hapeville High School in 1958. He married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth McCannon, on June 26, 1960 in Hapeville. After serving his country in the U.S. Army, he graduated from Georgia State College in Atlanta with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. In 1971 he and his partner started Stockholders Systems Inc., a very successful computer software company, from which he retired in 1995. Alan and Elizabeth have lived in Hapeville, East Point, Roswell, Alpharetta, and Cumming, Georgia. They are members of the Midway United Methodist Church.



Survivors include his beloved wife of 52 years, the former Agnes Elizabeth McCannon; two sons, Alan Blair Newton, Jr. and his wife Linda of Cumming and David Travis Newton of Decatur; two granddaughters, Blair Elizabeth and Anna Marie Newton of Cumming; two brothers, Neil Newton of Sharpsburg and Mike Newton of Morrow; and one sister, Leslie Newton Rose of Douglasville.



The funeral will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 22nd at the Chapel of Roswell United Methodist Church in Roswell with the Rev. Stacey Hanson officiating. Interment will follow at the Westview Cemetery in Atlanta. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 21st from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Ingram Funeral Home and Saturday, December 22nd from 9:00 am until 10:00 am at the Parlor of Roswell United Methodist Church.
