Wayne Shepherd

Wayne Shepherd, 91, of Cumming, Georgia went to be with the Lord December 15, 2012. He was born December 9, 1921 in Dupont, Indiana to Forrest Warren and Hazel Mae Shepherd.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Faye, sons and daughters-in-law Billy and Cindy Shepherd of Roswell; Mike and Betsy Shepherd of Peachtree Corners; daughter and son-in-law Tammy and Joe Pritchett of Fayetteville; granddaughters Michelle (Frank) Pace, Leanne (Andy) Hussion, Melissa (Chris) Cooper, Kaylee Pritchett and Kimberly Pritchett; great grand-daughters Samantha Pace, Peyton Pace, Molly Anne Cooper, Ava Cooper, Collins Hussion and great-grandson Drew Hussion.

Wayne joined the US Army in July 1942. He served in the 317th Regiment of the 80th Division in the Third Army and entered combat at Utah Beach in August 1944. Commanded by General George Patton, the 317th participated in the Battle at Argentan, Battle at the Moselle River, and Battle of the Bulge. The regiment lost 3,000 brave soldiers in September 1944 only a month into combat
