Barbara Lee McKay Ramey

Barbara Lee McKay Ramey, 83, of Wiley, Georgia, passed away at her home surrounded by her family Saturday, December 15, 2012.

Barbara was born in Rabun County, the daughter of the late John Percy Mckay and Ruby Keener McKay. She played basketball for Lakemont High School in the 1944, '45, '46 seasons. She was feared by her competitors. She graduated from Lakemont High in 1946 and after graduation she married the love of her life, Hoyt Ramey and they were married 66 years. Her life was devoted to sharing her faith in Jesus Christ, and taking care of her family. She enjoyed cooking, canning, making jams and jellies, flowers and gardening.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers J.L. McKay, Tommy McKay, John McKay.

She is survived by her loving husband, Hoyt Ramey of Wiley; two sons and daughter in-laws Cannon and Ruth Ramey of Lakemont, GA., Steve and Linda Ramey of Habersham, GA,; three daughters and two son-laws, Debra Ramey Marchman of Tiger, GA., Lorie and Anthony Thompson of Clayton, GA., Nan and Wayne Holcomb of Wiley, GA.; three brothers, Kenneth McKay of Lakemont, GA., Curtis McKay of El Cajon, CA., Richard McKay of Clarksville, GA.; one sister Bert Lovell of Doraville, GA. Nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends Sunday December 16, 2012 at Beck Funeral Home from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday December 17, 2012 at Tabernacle Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Townsend and Brian Cavender officiating. Burial will follow in the Wiley Cemetery.
