Monk Phom ThongDivong, age 96, of Baldwin, Georgia passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2012.
Monk Thongdivong was born on May 3, 1916, in Laos. He was a monk for all of his adult life and was the first head of monks to serve in the United States.
Survivors include his godchildren, Vichai Sarivong, Somboun Pharaphanh, Bounmy Vongphakdy, Monk Khamtanh Chandavong, and Lucky Khambounehuang.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2012, at the Wat Lao Buddharam Khambouneheuang Temple, 136 Hamby
Mountain Park Drive, Baldwin, Georgia 30511, with Monks from the Wat Lao Buddharam Khambouneheuang Temple and Leaders of the Lao Families Association of Habersham County officiating.
The body will lie in state at the temple on Friday, December 21, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour on Saturday.
The family will receive friends at 4 p.m. on Monday, December 3, 2012, and Monday, December 10, 2012, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South
Chapel, Baldwin, Georgia.
