Hoyt Lee Beckworth

Mr. Hoyt Lee Beckworth, age 82, of Dawsonville, GA (Lumpkin County), died Friday, November 23, 2012, at his home following a short illness.

Lee was born in Birmingham, AL April 21, 1930. He had lived in Lumpkin County for the past 22 years, moving here from Gulf Breeze, FL He was a member of Berea Baptist Church in Lumpkin County. Lee retired for AFLAC in the early 1980's. Lee had an entrepreneurial spirit owning several small businesses over the years including Lee's Hot Dogs in Fort Walton FL, Tastee Freeze on Pensacola Beach FL, The Kraut House in Gulf Shores AL and Starr Creations in Dahlonega , GA. Lee volunteered for the Lumpkin County Senior Center where he participated in Meals on Wheels. For the last five years he delivered papers for the Dahlonega Nugget. Lee was known in the community for his ability to bring a smile to your face, sense of humor, gentle soul and firm handshake. As a father and husband he always provided for his family.

He was the son of the late Claude Franklin Beckworth and Claire Giles Beckworth and was also preceded in death by his wife, Cyndi Beckworth.

Lee is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph Lee Beckworth and wife, Carol, Pensacola, FL, Steven Grady Beckworth, Gulf Breeze, FL, Hoyt Ashley Beckworth and wife, Jennifer, Orange Beach, AL, John Peyton Beckworth and wife, Kendra, Dahlonega, GA. Seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a number of other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service is scheduled for 7 PM Monday, November 26, 2012 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega.
Rev. Ray Prince will officiate.

The family will receive friends at Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega on Monday from 6 PM until 7 PM.
