Rev. William "Billy" Henry Harris, Jr.,

Obituary Date: Thursday, November 15, 2012

Rev. William "Billy" Henry Harris, Jr., age 65, of Cornelia, Georgia, went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Thursday afternoon, November 15, 2012, after an extended illness.

In June of 1967, Billy met the most beautiful girl, Susan, with whom he married on December 17, 1967. And so began a lifetime full of adventure, joy, love, and team work in the ministry, as well as working together to touch lives. He was a good, unfailing likeable man. Billy was a follower of Christ, with a strong faith, an affectionate and devoted husband, and a loving and supportive father and grandfather. Billy pastured Macedonia Baptist Church, Hillside Baptist Church, and was Interim at B.C. Grant Baptist Church. He was very active in the Habersham Baptist Ministerial Association, Words to Live By, and worked with the Habersham Baptist Association with the Georgia Baptist Mobile Dental Ministry. Billy retired in 1995 after 30 years of service from the Georgia DOT and in 2003 from the pulpit. Though his loss is devastating to those of us who held him so close and so dear, we will always be inspired by his enduring contributions to our world.

Billy is the son of the late William "Bill Harris and Lousie "Doodle" Wood Harris. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Susan Wright Harris; daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Scott Thomas, Mt. Airy, GA; daughter, Dari Harris Oxner, Cornelia, GA; three grandchildren, Alexis Oxner, Faith Oxner, and Nicolas Thomas; brothers and sisters-in-law, Alex and Tammy Harris, Clarkesville, GA and Tony and Carmen Harris, Cornelia, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Denise and Avery Nix, Clarkesville, GA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and loved cousins from all over the world.

A Celebrate Me Home service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2012, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia. Burial will be in Yonah Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held at the end of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Georgia Baptist Mobile Dental Clinic, in care of, Tim E. McClure, Northeast Georgia Area Missionary, 220 Chenocetah Drive, Cornelia, Georgia 30531.
