Virg L. "Puncho" Helton

Virg L. "Puncho" Helton, 79, of Gainesville passed away Tuesday November 13, 2012 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Born May 12, 1933 in Harlan County, Kentucky to the late Glen and Lela Helton, he moved to Dawson County in 1980 and then to Gainesville three years ago. Mr. Helton lived a period of time in Fletcher, Ohio where he worked in residential construction. After moving to Dawson County he was employed by Hoover and the Dawson County School System. He was a U. S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of Grace Baptist Church. A loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, he enjoyed Cincinnati Reds baseball, Kentucky basketball and NASCAR. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Doris Thomas, Orillia Watkins; and brothers, Eugene Helton, Glen Helton, and Raymond Helton.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Peggy Helton, Gainesville; children, Kim and David Tubbs, Gainesville, Billy and Sheryl Helton, Damon, TX, eth and Carl Reedy, Troy, OH, Alan Helton, Dawsonville; sisters and brothers in law, Joie and Clyde Bullock, Lake City, TN, Dessie and Harold Kannard, Bradford, OH; brothers and sisters in law, Kenny and Pam Helton, Gainesville, Donnie and Linda "Sis" Helton, Phoenix City, AL, Harold "Bummy" Helton, Branford, OH; 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Friday November 16, 2012 at 11 o'clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Tim Holland will officiate.

The family will receive friends Friday beginning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
