Lila Thompson Finke

Obituary Date: Monday, November 12, 2012


Lila Thompson Finke, 88, of Gainesville, Ga.passed away on Monday, November 12, 2012 at Serenity Personal Care Home in Jefferson, Georgia. Visitation services will be held on Tuesday, November 13 at Ward's Funeral Home of Gainesville from 6-8pm . Funeral services will be at the chapel of Floral Hill Cemetery Mausoleum of Tucker, Ga. on Wednesday, November 14 at 1:30 pm.

Mrs. Finke was born and raised in Indiana. She graduated from Versailles High School, and then married into the United States Air Force, which allowed her to call Louisiana, Texas and Georgia home. She served Decatur Federal Bank for 20 years before her retirement. Mrs. Finke then worked 15 years at Hallmark card shop.

Those who knew Mrs. Lila or Gran, as she was often called, remember her fondly. She always wanted everyone to be well fed and would share any food except ice cream. Mrs. Lila loved crisp dollar bills, state quarters and Elvis Presley. A true bargain lover, Mrs. Finke would proudly wear beautiful $3 outfits and never think a thing about it as long as she also wore lipstick and combed her hair.

Mrs. Lila lived the last years of her life in Peachtree Plantation assisted living facility of Gainesville and Serenity personal care home of Jefferson, where she was blessed to receive excellent care and make many new friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ross Finke, and son, Michael Ross Finke. Mrs. Finke is survived by her daughter Cindy Finke Williams and her husband, Calvin Williams, and her daughter-in-law, Carol Bagley Finke; grandchildren and acquired grandchildren, Christopher Ross Williams and Anna Ruminer, Lindsey Williams Hicks and Matthew Hicks, Shannan Michelle Finke and Brandon Michael Finke. Mrs. Finke had one great-grandson, Wesley Ross Hicks. Mrs. Finke had one neice who lived locally, Carol Kaiser of Dunwoody. She was one of four children, including her brother, Ralph Thompson (deceased), and sisters, Kathleen Thompson Stehle of Texas and Jane Thompson Wilson of Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Pinecrest Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society in memory of Michael Ross Finke.
