Carianne "Kay" (Upchurch) Shubert

Mrs. Carianne "Kay" (Upchurch) Shubert, age 76 of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at her residence following an extended illness.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Friday, October 19, 2012 at Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel with interment to follow in Clemmons Chapel UMC in Lula, GA. The Reverend Bob Nash, a former classmate, who also married Kay and her husband Granville will officiate. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 pm Thursday, October 18, 2012 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Shubert was born on December 19, 1935 in Atlanta, Georgia and was the daughter of the late James Upchurch and Ocey (Johnson) Upchurch. She graduated from Russell High School in Atlanta and also from Truett-McConnell College in Cleveland, Georgia. Kay retire from Compton, Jessup and Pierce after 23 years. Following her retirement she worked part-time for Tranville Corporation until 2010.
She was on the Board of Directors for the Gainesville Ballet and was a volunteer for many years. Kay was a devoted Wife, Mother and Grandmother, she was an avid reader and enjoyed playing bridge and traveling with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Bernice Shubert.
Kay is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Granville (Granny) Shubert, whom she met sitting on a log at a pep rally at Truett-McConnell College in 1955; son, Marshall W. (Marty) Shubert; son and daughter-in-law, Anthony K. (Tony) and Judy Shubert; daughter and son-in-law, Andrea (Shubert) and Daniel Jones; grandchildren, Alex Jones and Sidney Jones, Natalie Shubert and Cari Elah Shubert; step-grandchildren, Christopher Lingerfelt, Rachel Anderson and Angela and Jerry Self; 11 step-great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, James R. and Ruth Upchurch; Robert and Jill Upchurch; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ray and Barbara Shubert; aunts, Jessie Lee Austin and Eula G. Woodard; special friends, Betty, Charlotte, Donna and Mary and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center 2150 Limestone Parkway Gainesville, GA 30501.
