Luther Jess "L.J." Mayo, age 60, of Dahlonega, GA, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 13, 2012.
L.J. was a lifetime resident of Lumpkin County. He recently retired from the Lake Sydney Lanier Project with Anderson O & M after 34 years of service. He was of the Christian faith and was a U.S. Army veteran.
L.J. was preceded in death by his mother, Bertha Lee Thomason Lingerfelt and his sister, Pat Mayo Ross.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Suzie Mayo; daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Danny Cochran; son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and JoAnne Mayo; grandchildren, Daniel and Callie Cochran, Nicholas Cochran, John Rylee Cochran, Emily and Elizabeth Mayo. He is also survived by his father, Max Lingerfelt; and his brother, Steve Mayo; special friends, Joyce and Larry Banister, and Cheri and Jimmy Wheeler. A number of other relatives also survive.
Funeral services for L.J. are scheduled for 2 PM Monday, October 15, 2012 at the Dahlonega Church of God.
Pastors Mike Owens, Larry Henry, and Tim Tanner will officiate.
Interment will follow in Dahlonega Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors provided by the Veterans Alliance Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at Banister Funeral Home of Dahlonega on Sunday, October 14, 2012 from 5 PM until 9 PM and again on Monday from 10 AM until the funeral hour.
