Mrs. Martha "Pinky" (Pittard) Cabe, age 83, of Gainesville, GA formerly of Winterville, GA, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2012 at the Oaks at Limestone.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, October 15, 2012 at the Chapel of the First Baptist Church in Gainesville with Dr. Bill Coates and Rev. Bruce Fields officiating.
Martha "Pinky" (Pittard) Cabe was born January 29, 1929, in Winterville, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Grady Chandler Pittard and Sue (Candler) Pittard. Martha grew up in Winterville, Georgia. She was captain of her High School basketball team which won the State championship in 1946. She continued playing basketball in college. She graduated from Women's College of Georgia with a degree in education and went on to get her Master's degree from the University of Georgia. She and her husband Guy lived in Winterville until moving to Gainesville, Georgia in 1966. Martha was a devoted member of First Baptist Church, where she taught the Gleaners Sunday School class for over forty years. She was active in Meals on Wheels, Ministry of Caring, Study Club and the History Center, and many other activities. She taught fourth and fifth grades at Riverbend Elementary School for over 20 years, and retired as a teacher.
She is survived by her sons, Randal Walter Cabe and Jerry Thomas Cabe; daughters, Catharine Sue Burns and Donna Lynn Blaeser, her husband Mark; grandchildren Joseph, Kelly, John, Jacob, Jessica, Jerry II, John Thomas, and Zachariah.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations to be made to the First Baptist Ministry of Caring 751 Green Street, Gainesville, GA 30501 or Future Fund programs.
