Donald Russell Bourne

Donald Russell Bourne, 87, of Lakemont, GA passed away at his residence Friday, October 12, 2012. He was the son of William Ather Bourne and Addie Maxwell Polk Bourne.



In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Albert Russell Bourne; three brothers, Bill Bourne, Kenneth Bourne and Lynn Bourne; and a sister, Catherine Freeman.



Mr. Bourne is survived by his loving wife, Nell Patrick Kirkland Bourne; two sons, David William Bourne and his wife, Sharon of Watkinsville, GA, Richard Alvin Bourne Sr. and his wife, Anne of Thomson, GA; a daughter, Patricia Irene Bourne of Athens, GA; ; 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.



He was born in Franklin County, Mississippi and moved to Athens to live with his mother's brother and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. N.T. Polk at the age of 7. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and was retired from Georgia Power where he worked as a lineman. Mr. Bourne was a Georgia Power Ambassador for the Athens and Northeast Georgia regions, was very active in the Lions Club for many years and was a volunteer fireman and EMT in Greene County and did volunteer work at Tallulah Gorge from the time Jane Hurt Yarn Center was built until 2011. He was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather. He sang in the church choir until his hearing prevented him from doing so. He was member Tiger United Methodist Church.



The family will receive friends at Tiger United Methodist Church, Sunday, October 14, 2012 from 2 PM to 3 PM. Services will be held after visitation at 3 PM with Rev. James Turpen officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2 PM Monday, October 15, 2012 at Johnson United Methodist Church Cemetery in Watkinsville, GA.



Memorial donations in Mr. Bourne's memory may be made to Tiger United Methodist Church or to Johnson United Methodist Church.
