Rev. Chester Harvey Langley

Rev. Chester Harvey Langley, age 85, of Buford, GA passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2012.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bessie Inez Thomas; father, Chester Harvey Langley, Sr.; sons-in-law, Dorsey Sims and Larry Johnson.

He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-six years, Louise Langley, Buford, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Dale and Glenda Overstreet, Sandra Sims, Janie Johnson, Steve and Beverly McMichen, Jim and Debra Giles, David and Elaine Hill; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Alan, Kristi, Dale, Cade and Luke Overstreet; Tim, Ashly, T. J. and Preston Stephens; Bill, Jamie, Hannah, Rebekah, Elijah and Isaiah Sims; Steve, Celane, Hunter and Peyton Tillery; Austin, Lisa and A. J. Johnson; Aubrey and Courtney Johnson; David, Ashley, Korrigan and Pierce Marsh; Chris, Brooke, Hartlee and Jackson Giles; Nate, Kimberly, Noah and Jacob Cochran; Tyler and Kelsey Hill; and Megan Hill.

Mr. Langley was born June 28, 1927 in Atlanta, GA. He was a graduate of Hoke Smith High School in Atlanta, GA and was a veteran of World War II serving in the U. S. Army. He was retired from General Motors Lakewood Plant after thirty-three years of service.

He became a member of Riverside Baptist Church in Buford, GA in 1952 and was ordained as a minister in 1954. He served as a former pastor of El Bethel Baptist Church, Buffington Baptist Church and Riverside Baptist Church.

He was a member of Buford Masonic Lodge 292, past Chaplain of Buford Lodge 292, past Master of Buford Masonic Lodge 292 in 1964, past Grand Chaplin of State of Georgia in 1966, past Trustee of Board of Relief of Masons of Georgia, past Trustee of Masonic Children's Home of Georgia for three years, past Secretary of Buford Lodge 292, past treasurer of Buford Lodge 292, member of Royal Arch, member of Arnold Detroye Comandery, member of Research Lodge of Georgia, past Trustee of Widows Fund for Gwinnett County Masonic Association, and past member of By-Laws Committee of Grand Lodge of Georgia.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Akins and Rev. Jimmy Masters officiating.

Interment will follow with a Masonic Graveside Service at Riverside Baptist Church Cemetery in Buford, GA. Masons will serve as honorary escorts. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.
