Flo Pritchett Criss

Flo Pritchett Criss, resident of Gainesville, died October 1, 2012, age 97. Mrs. Criss was born July 2, 1915, near Demopolis, AL. She was the daughter of Tom and Sudie Pritchett and was the youngest in a family of six daughters. She was preceded in death by John William Criss, her loving husband of 63 years.

She is survived by her daughter Flo Criss Smith and son-in-law J.D. Smith of Gainesville; grandson, Brian Randolph Smith of Atlanta; granddaughter, Joanna Smith Nijem and Joanna's husband, William Charles Nijem, Jr. of Valdosta; and great-granddaughter, Olivia Grace Nijem of Valdosta.


Flo was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She and John moved to Gainesville from Atlanta fifteen years ago to be closer to their family. She loved to garden and cook, and one of her greatest joys was having family and friends at her table. Some of her family's favorite dishes were her gumbo, turkey and dressing, corn fritters, and pork tenderloin.


When she lived in Atlanta, she was very active in the Northside Drive Baptist Church. When she and John moved to Gainesville, they joined the First Baptist Church and made this their church home. She felt so blessed to have had Dr. Bill Coates as her Pastor and Rev. Bruce Fields as her Minister of Caring.


She leaves many dear friends that she loved.


Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 5, 2012 in the chapel of First Baptist Church. Rev. Bruce Fields will officiate. The family will receive friends in the church Parlor after the service.


In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church Ministry of Caring, 751 Green Street Gainesville GA 30501.
