Mrs. Imogene B. Scott was born March 31, 1919 to William and Ida Bush in Commerce, Georgia (Franklin County). She was preceded in death by her father and mother, sister, Willie Mae, and brothers Sam and James Bush.

Imogene attended public school in Franklin County and went on to Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. She majored in Early Childhood Development. She returned to Gainesville and married the late Jack Neal. They had one daughter, Jacqueline.

Imogene became the director of the only Black nursery, Green Hunter, on Atlanta Street in Gainesville in 1952. She joined St. John Baptist Church and became an active member in the Senior Choir. She also became active with the Junior Service League of Gainesville. Imogene was well noted with many families and cared for their children. When Green Hunter closed, she opened her own nursery on Calvary Drive where she continued her work. Her health began to fail and in 1990 she closed the doors to her nursery.

Imogene's religious background began with her family in Commerce, at Melvin Hill Christian Methodist Church. It was only after she completed college and moved to Gainesville that she joined St. John Baptist Church and became active. In 1978 she met her husband, Reverend Robert J. Scott. They married in 1979 and she became the First Lady of the various churches he pastored all over Georgia for 33 years.

Her health began to rapidly fail and for the needed care she was hospitalized and then went to New Horizon West where she was well taken care of until early Tuesday morning, September 25, when she made her transition.

She leaves to cherish her memory: a beloved husband of 33 years, Reverend Robert J. Scott; daughter, Jacqueline (Archie) Wade of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; brother, Richard (Patricia) Flemming of Walnut Creek, California; two step-sons, Vincent and Christopher Scott of Atlanta, Georgia; sister-in-law, Dollye Thomas; five grandchildren, Derrick, Mia, Ken, Kevin, and Tina; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Family and friends are asked to assemble at Young's Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m.
