Robert Alvin Owen

Funeral services for Mr. Robert Alvin Owen, age 99, of Mt. Airy, will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 11:00 AM from the Clarkesville United Methodist Church. Rev. Jan Devereaux, Rev. Brian Butler, and Dr. Tom Hodges will officiate with interment to follow the service in Yonah Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Owen died Sunday, September 16, 2012 at his residence.
Born in Spartanburg, South Carolina on October 11, 1912, Mr. Owen was the son of the late James M. and Lillian Lancaster Owen. Mr. Owen was a member of Clarkesville United Methodist Church and he was a local troop leader with the Boy Scouts of American from the 1940's until the 1960's. Mr. Owen retired from Habersham County as a soil conservationist with 34 years of dedicated service. He was also a cattle farmer. In addition to his parents, Mr. Owen is preceded in death by his wife Lily Norris Owen and a brother Macdonald Owen.

Survivors include son and daughter in law Jerry and Carolyn Owen of Athens and brother Bernard Owen of Augusta.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
