Grace Smith Abernathy

Grace Smith Abernathy, 79, of Dawsonville passed away Friday September 7, 2012 at her residence following an extended illness.

Born October 31, 1932 in Lumpkin County to the late Ode and Dolly Reeves, she lived most of her life in Dawson County. A homemaker at her death, she was formerly employed at Sweet-Orr, Kabar and U. S. I. Industries. She was a member of Harmony Baptist Church and was also preceded in death by her husbands, Wilburn Smith and Charles "Short" Abernathy; brothers, Horace Reeves, Gene Reeves, Jack Reeves, Jimmy Reeves; and sisters Pauline Reeves and Edna Fletcher.

Surviving are her children, Judy and Jim Geisler, Monroe, LA, Glynn Smith, Dawsonville, Anita Canada, Gainesville; sister, Odeleen Talley, Dawsonville; grandchildren, Jeff and Amy Garmon, Milner, GA, Jennifer and John Reser, Bossier City, LA, Heather Smith, Atlanta, Hillarie Smith, Dawsonville, Amy Ransom, Gainesville; great grandchildren, Christopher Ekberg, Bossier City, LA, Emiley Reser, Bossier City, John Austin Reser, Bossier City, Rachel Garmon, McDonough, GA, Matthew Garmon, McDonough, Kacie Trammell, Griffin, Zoe Smith, Dawsonville.

Funeral services will be held Sunday September 9, 2012 at 2 o'clock at Harmony Baptist Church. Rev. Joey Gilbert will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 until 9 at the funeral home.
