Guy Walter Cabe

Mr. Guy Walter Cabe, age 87, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, August 26, 2012 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

A celebration of life service will be held 2:00 pm Monday, August 27, 2012 at the Chapel of the First Baptist Church in Gainesville with Dr. Bill Coates and Rev. Bruce Fields officiating.

Guy Walter Cabe born October 13, 1924, in Stephens County Georgia and was the son of the late Stephen Lawrence Cabe and Roxy Talley Cabe.

He is survived by his wife, Martha (Pinky) Pittard Cabe; sons, Randal Walter Cabe and Jerry Thomas Cabe; daughters, Catharine Sue Burns and Donna Lynn Blaeser, her husband Mark; grandchildren Joseph, Kelly, John, Jacob, Jessica, Jerry II, John Thomas, and Zachariah.

Guy Cabe graduated from Stephens County High School at age 16. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelors of Science in Agriculture at age 19 and later completed his Masters Degree in Education at the University of Georgia. He was a member of the Blue Key Honors Fraternity, Phi Kappa Phi Honors Society, Kappa Delta Pi and Gridiron Club. He also completed his Certified Public Manager degree and obtained his real estate license.

Guy and his wife Martha have been devoted members of First Baptist Church since 1966, where Guy served as a deacon, and later as Chairman of the Deacons, and a 46 year member of the Anglers Sunday School class. Guy also served on many committees for the Church and Chattahoochee Baptist Association. He was active in Civitan and Rotarian for many years. He was an ordained deacon in the Baptist Church at the age of 22. He began teaching High School at the age of 19 and taught at Athens High School for 16 years. He then transferred to the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation with the State of Georgia. He later became the District Director for the Georgia Department of Human Resources, covering the Northeast Georgia territory. He retired in 1978, however continued his career at Gainesville State College, also serving as the Director for the History Center in Gainesville. He was an avid golfer. He was truly devoted to serving his community in many civic and professional organizations. He was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and with the Ministry of Caring at First Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations to be made to the First Baptist Church Ministry of Caring program 751 Green Street, Gainesville, GA 30501.
