Mrs. Grace H. Moore, age 95, of Lanier Village Estates, Gainesville, GA, passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2012.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 4:00 pm Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Gainesville First United Methodist Church. Rev. Dr. Terry Walton and Dr. Don Harp will officiate. The family will receive friends after the service in the church Great Room. Interment will be in Alta Vista Cemetery.
Grace was born in McDonough, Georgia on May 28, 1917. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Walton Moore, Jr.; her parents, James Ernest Hooten and Bertha Dickson Hooten and her sisters, Jamie Hooten Carmichael, Sarah Hooten Evans and Gloria Hooten Wilson; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Anne Adele Moore.
She graduated from McDonough High School and Brenau College. She taught school in Canton, Georgia until her marriage in 1939. She was an active member of Gainesville First United Methodist Church and the Open Door Sunday School Class.
She was a member of the Brenau College Board of Trustees and served as chairman in 1974; received the Outstanding Service to Brenau Award, the Sullivan Award and was in the first group of inductees to the Brenau Hall of Fame. She was selected Rotary Woman of the Year in 1975. She served as Cub Scout den mother, Girl Scout leader, President of the Women's Society of Christian Service, taught adult and children's Sunday School and other church and community activities. Grace Moore was a person who loved her God, her church, her family and her friends.
She is survived by her children; Walton and Nancy Moore, Jim and Evanda Moore, Gainesville; Dixie and Dick Harris, Raleigh, NC; June and Bruce Boggs, Wilton, CT; Jean and Mark Young, Atlanta, GA; grandchildren; Ashley Moore Galya (Jerry), Margie Moore Couvillon (Sam), Dorothy Harris Blaise (Roland), Mary Harris Ingram, Jay Moore (Natalie), Walt Moore, Catherine Boggs King (Justin), Sarah Boggs Anderson (Thomas), Elizabeth Boggs, Grace Young Brown (Jeff), Mark Young, Dan Young; and 13 great-grandchildren; four nieces and one nephew. The family would like to acknowledge the loving care and support of the staff of Lanier Village and the Willow Brook Nursing Facility.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Gainesville First United Methodist Church, Brenau University or the charity of one's choice.
