William Dannelley Oaks

Funeral services for William Dannelley "Dan" Oaks, age 73, of Oakwood will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, August 13, 2012 from the Shirley Grove Baptist Church. Rev. Kirby Smith and Rev. Dennis Ledford will officiate with interment to follow the service in the church cemetery.

Mr. Oaks died Friday, August 10, 2012 in Gainesville.

Born in Crawfordville, Florida on December 21, 1938, Mr. Oaks was the son of the late William W. and Gertrude Dannelley Oaks. Mr. Oaks was a United States Marine Veteran and he was formerly a Florida State Patrol Officer. After working in law enforcement Mr. Oaks later became an insurance executive for the Association of Self Insurances Service, Inc. He resided at Autumn Breeze Assisted Living in Gainesville, Georgia for the last 19 months.

Survivors include his wife Barbara I. Oaks of Oakwood, daughter Misti Sanders (Andrew) of Corpus Christi, Texas, stepson Jerome Wood (Cindy) of Montgomery, Alabama, sisters Betty Jo Green of Crawfordville, Florida and Sally Hirschmann (Jack) of Port Ludlow, Washington, grandchildren Morgan and Mason Wood, and Maylon, Hayden, and Patton Sanders, as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, August 12, 2012, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM.
