Walter Eugene Mance

Walter Eugene Mance, 79, of Clayton, Georgia passed away July 23, 2012 at Augusta Burn Center.

He was born in Hartwell, GA, and was the son of Eugene Walter (Buster) Mance and Icy Moore Mance.

In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his two sons, Chris, who lost his battle with cancer on April 29, 2012, and Anthony Mance; a brother, James Sullivan Moore; and a sister, Mary Helen Brown.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Evelyn Owens Mance, two daughters, Cherryl Long and her husband, Rev.Farris Long Sr. of Clayton, Shelia Mance Wright and her husband Tracy of Martin, GA; a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Mance of Gainesville, GA; one brother, Willie Lee Mance of Philadelphia, PA; two sisters, Janie Mance Scott of Clayton, Alma Jean Mance Masih of Newnan, GA; and 3 sister-in-laws and 5 brother-in laws. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Lavon Scott of Eastanollee, GA, Keyshia Mayfield of Clayton, Trey Wright of Clayton, Brian Mance of Gainesville, GA, Shlea Wright of Martin, GA, and Farris Mance of Gainesville, GA; and one great-grandchild, Isia Wilmont of Clayton.

Walter worked as a butcher for the Clayton Super Market, and attended Ivy Hill Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, sports, the Atlanta Braves, gardening and working with his flowers. His family always came first, and he was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

The family will receive friends at beck Funeral Home Friday, July 27, 2012 from 6 PM to 8 PM. Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Ivy Hill Baptist Church with Elder Hubert Grant officiating. Burial will follow in Penland Cemetery.

The family is at the home of Cheryl Mance Long at 850 Polygap Road, Clayton.
