Charles B. Finley

Charles B. Finley, 64, of Dawsonville passed away Wednesday July 4, 2012 at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Born July 5, 1947 to the late Charlie and Dorothy Finley, he was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. Charles graduated from Dawson County High School, the University of Georgia and taught in the Dawson County School System for 42 years. A hard working and loving husband, father and teacher, he possessed a great love for the entire Dawson County Community and considered all of them family. He was a founding member and former president of the Dawson County Jaycees who were instrumental in establishing the Mountain Moonshine Festival and the Empty Stocking Fund which is now called Kare for Kids. He held state offices in the Jaycees organization. Mr. Finley's love of Dawson County and his passions for history and genealogy led him to author a book, Yesterday Once More: A History Of The Schools Of Dawson County, another on the history of Dawson County basketball and was currently working on a book on the history of Dawson County. He was a certified Master Gardener, was a member of the Dawson County Historical and Genealogical Society, was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, the Gideons International and remained an avid Georgia Bulldog fan. Charles was a deacon of Goshen Baptist Church and had held many positions in the church.

Surviving are his wife of almost 31 years, Kathy C. Finley, Dawsonville; son, Benjamin Finley, Dawsonville; brothers in law and sisters in law, Sandra Carlyle, Lenoir City, TN, Boyd and Terry Carlyle, Pendergrass, Wayne and Paulette Carlyle, Lula; sisters in law and brothers in law, Doris and Gene England, Gainesville, Betty and Ray Rogers, Gainesville; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Sunday July 15, 2012 at 2 o'clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Casey Martin, Rev. Russell Burt and Rev. Jason Hamby will officiate. Interment will follow in the Goshen Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday July 14, 2012 from 1 until 4 at the funeral home.
