Jeanette Wood Simmons, age 96, of Baldwin, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2012.
Mrs. Simmons was born on November 14, 1915, in Cordele, Georgia; daughter of the late Marion Henry and Ethel Jane Cunningham Wood. In
addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William D. "Bill" Simmons. She was a homemaker and formerly employed with Bell Bomber during World War II. Mrs. Simmons was a charter member of the Habersham Chapter of the Rosie the Riveter National Association. She was also the travel coordinator for the Banks County AARP for many years. Mrs. Simmons was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church and attended Harmony Baptist Church. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many people.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, William Pat and Anne Simmons, Morganton, GA and Ricky and Carolyn Simmons, Commerce, GA; sisters, Virginia Martin, Cornelia, GA and Polly Hooks, Florida; brother, Jack Wood, Cordele, GA; grandchildren and their husbands, Pam and Scott Bettridge and Becky and Jason Hughes; grandchildren, Virginia Simmons and Bill Simmons; great-grandchildren, Catherine and Will Bettridge and Lucy and Henry Hughes; and special niece, Gail Westbrook, Alto, GA.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2012, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, Georgia, with Rev. Mark Vandiver, Rev. Gene Todd, and Rev. Jerry Payne officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, July 6, 2012, at the funeral home.
