Mr. Robert William "Bill" Butler, Jr. 76, of Gainesville, died Monday July 2, 2012 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
A lifelong resident of Hall County, Mr. Butler was the son of the late Robert William and Lorene Butler. He attended Gainesville High School and served as a fireman with the City of Gainesville for many years before becoming director of solid waste which was also with the city of Gainesville before his retirement.
Mr. Butler was a veteran serving in the US Army. He was a little league baseball coach for many years with the Gainesville Parks and Recreation. He umpired baseball and refereed football and basketball for over 40 years.
He was chairman of the Youth Activities Committee for the Gainesville Elks Lodge. Mr. Butler was a member of the First Baptist Church on Green Street.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Helen Butler; son and daughter in law, Jeff and Jessica Butler; daughter and son in law, Julie and Pablo Colombini,; 2 grandsons, Luca and Nico Colombini; sisters, Hazel Barnes and Betty Butler all of Gainesville; sister in law and brother in law, Jean and Gerald Fields of Brookton, sister in law, Doris Chambers of Clermont, and brother in law Pete Crow of Clermont a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 5, 2012 at First Baptist Church Chapel, Green Street. The Reverend Dr. Bill Coates will officiate. The family will receive friends in the Banquet Hall at the Church after the memorial service on Thursday. A private family burial was held on Tuesday July 3 in the Alta Vista Cemetery.
