Homer "Lee" Fields, age 77, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away peacefully at 11:26 AM on Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center after a sudden illness.
He was born January 8, 1935 in Cleveland, Georgia, the son of the late Andrew Jackson Fields and Belle Helton Fields.
Lee worked as a long haul truck driver for Dahlonega Transport and was a U.S. Army (Korea) and U.S. Navy (Vietnam) veteran. On January 2, 1969 he married Genevieve Itress Austin in Las Vegas, Nevada. Lee was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Genevieve Itress Bugg Fields.
He is survived by his daughter, Samantha Fields-Salain and her husband, Mitchell, of Dahlonega; four step-daughters, Susan Campbell and her husband, Russell, of Willard, Missouri, Nancy Lucas, Peggy Nichols and her husband, Johnny, and Itress Wilson, all of Aurora, Missouri; one sister, Elizabeth Grindle and her husband, Robert, of Dahlonega; and one brother, A.J. Fields and his wife, Marsha, of Dahlonega. In addition, he is survived by a number of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service for Lee is scheduled for 3 PM Monday, June 25, 2012, at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega.
Rev. Lyman Caldwell and Todd Panter will officiate.
The family will receive friends at Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega on Monday from 1 PM until 3 PM.
